I chose to make an urban residential/retail district (rather than commercial/ manufacturing) because the buildings are smaller in floorplan, and have more windows. This makes the table look better (because the buildings are not so box-like) and provides a LOT more firing positions and tactical opportunities.
The town is sort-of-modular. The buildings fit together in different ways so the town plan can vary from game to game. |
I tried to give a good 'mix' of heights, so the buildings would look different, yet on the whole, they still look like they belong together, rather than just being a bunch of stuff thrown onto a table. When set out as above, the table seems close, with short lines-of-sight, yet when the bell tower is placed in the centre, the table opens up, and the centre becomes a killing field.
