When Benton discovered what PetroCorp planned to do with his project he panicked. Not that it helped. He downloaded his entire project onto a disc, and reformatted his computer. Then ran like a fool, into the Zone. His plan had been so simple. He'd find himself a hole and dig himself in. Then he'd call someone and barter himself and his research for safety. Benton managed to contact an executive at Biotronics, and was told that help was on the way. But as night fell, there was no sign of any rescue team and he was beginning to get nervous. He knew the stories about the zone, and what came out after dark. He only hoped that Biotronics found him before anyone or anything else did.
Set Up The table should be covered with ruined buildings and rubble. The center of the table should have a ruined building where Benton is located. PetroCorp starts on one side of the table, Biotronics starts on the opposite side of the table. The Vultures start in the center near Benton. Victory Conditions PetroCorp wins a partial victory by carrying the data disc off the same edge of the table they started on. They win a complete victory if they also kill Benton. Biotronics wins by keeping Benton alive and killing everyone else on the board. If they get Benton or the Data disc off the table, but leave any survivors behind they win a partial victory. The Vultures win a partial victory by collecting a comm unit and a new weapon for each of the surviving members of the gang. If they also manage to get Benton off the table with the Data disc they win a complete victory. Special Rules The data disc can be retrieved from Benton by any unit in base contact of Benton (he’ll give it to anyone that promises not to hurt him) at a cost of 1 AP. It can be picked up from a dead body at the cost of 1 AP. PetroCorp - At approximately 2:15 PM an illegal computer process was committed. Work station 54's computer was reformatted. A search for Dr. Benton revealed that the doctor had left, alone. Security assumed that Dr. Benton has stolen his research data and is trying to sell it to a rival Corporation. A call from a source at Biotronics shows the truth of the matter. Benton is awaiting pickup in sector F5. A small force is to enter the zone, find Benton, eliminate him, and reclaim the data disc. They are to deal with extreme prejudice toward anyone that interferes, but the main objective is to return with the data disc.
Biotronics - A rogue researcher from PetroCorp has made contact from the zone, offering himself and stolen research data in return for safety. Two security teams have been sent out to retrieve him. If they encounter a force from PetroCorp they are to eliminate them and bring the doctor and his research back.
The Vultures - Huntress watched the battle unfold beneath her. Security forces from two local Corporations were duking it out down there. That was something new, and the possibilities were endless. If they lowered each other’s numbers enough, her gang could rush in and finish them off. The weapons they'd pick up would make The Vultures a force to be reckoned with. As she was about to signal to her gang to go in, she noticed a figure skulking in the rubble. Now who is that? Is he the reason those bastards are fighting? As Huntress climbed down from her position, as a new plan formed in her mind. The Vultures cannot enter the game until the two corps begin fighting - The gang is both outnumbered and outgunned, so has to make best use of their force. They can sit back and pick off strays until it is obvious one side is going to win, or they can throw in with one side or the other. They'll have to be careful, as the Corporate troops may well decide to eliminate them before settling their own differences. The gang's goal is to loot as much tech and weapons they can from the Corporate units. Capturing the skulker might be worthwhile, too. If the Corporations are willing to go to so much trouble, he might be worth something.

Everybody has sources, and Benton's flight into the 'Zone was one of the worst-kept secrets ever! You can have a merry free-for-all as everyone tries to capture the hapless scientist. As written, the scenario offers interesting tactical problems for The Vultures, and their decisions cause interesting tactical problems for everyone else. It's worth replaying, with players tyring different factions. |
